Corrected BV2 Weapons Data Files for HeavyMetal Pro

I recently discovered that the revised weapons data files that I compiled in December of 2014 had errors in them, and while the program's version has not changed, new data files are needed if you've downloaded the update since December 22 of last year. This only applies to the BV2 version of HMPro, and only if you've updated since December 22 of last year. Down the update from the Data Files for Programs page. Sorry for the inconvenience.  :-(

More RUS Data Files

Aaron Gregory sent me this group of RUS data files, a collection of 496 files from Field Manual 3085, Reunification War, Liberation of Terra 1 and Field Manual SLDF, so they are how available for you to download as well. Get them at the RUS Data Files page.

Changes in Shipping Costs & Methods

Effective today, new postal rates have gone into effect. While I'm eating the additional postage (again) to the US, postal rates for Priority Mail International have gone through the roof! It's getting close to spending the same for shipping the program as for the program itself! Therefore, in the future I will be sending all international shipments using First Class Mail International rather than Priority International. While the USPS will not give me a definite shipping time, First Class International uses air mail across the ocean, so should be equivalent to Air Mail. I'm guessing about 10 days, but will have to see how it works out. The cost for shipping overseas programs in this way is about half what I was charging for Priority International, and close to a third of what I'd have to charge with the new rates. Hopefully, this will work out well, taking only a little longer, while saving everyone money. You can get more information on shipping rates on my Shipping Methods page.

Custom Weapon/Equipment Data Files for Total Warfare

While the current HeavyMetal programs do not completely support all of the new equipment, Leon Shirow has generously supplied custom weapons files for all of the programs, making it possible to design using all of the latest equipment. These files are installed using an automated setup program, which can update all of your HeavyMetal programs at once. Down the setup from the Data Files for Programs page.

HeavyMetal Map Update

Improved the flexibility of the Line-Of-Site (LOS) markers added in the previous revision, and changed them to draw on top of any hex graphics, so as to be more easily seen. To get the latest updates for all programs, go to the Program Updates Page.

May 31, 2011

HeavyMetal Map Update

The ability to add Line-Of-Site (LOS) markers to the centers of all hexes has been added to the program. Four types and sizes of dots as well as crosshairs are available. The number of Add-On graphics that can be added has been greatly increased. To get the latest updates for all programs, go to the Program Updates Page.

Tutorial on Making PDF TRO Booklets

Thanks to Dylan Myers (aka Ralgith t'Mayasara or Erian Hendvarden) for this tutorial on how to use a PDF creation program (he recommends a good one that's free) to make TROs and other booklets of your designs in PDF format. You can download the tutorial here.

Updated HeavyMetal Pro on Vista and Windows7/8/10 Page

Windows7, despite the name, is more of a service pack to Vista than a completely new operating system. Therefore, most of the comments concerning running HeavyMetal programs on Vista apply equally to Windows7/8/10. To read all about it, and other good information concerning Microsoft's newest operating systems at my Running HeavyMetal on Vista and Windows7/8/10 page.

June 7, 2009

Updated BV Balance Spreadsheet

While this is a belated changed, a user recently notified me that the BV Balancer Spreadsheet had not been updated to the latest errata (the BV modifiers based on piloting and gunner skills). The spreadsheet has been updated as now, and you can download Version 2.5 of the spreadsheet, just go to the Battle Value Balancer page.

Three More DropShip Add-On Graphics for HeavyMetal Map

Ken Reno sent these additional add-on graphics, which were intended to be grouped with those I posted yesterday, so I've added them to the same zip. Get them and the others from the HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page.

June 5, 2009

New DropShip Add-On Graphics for HeavyMetal Map

Ken Reno sent these excellent add-on graphics of BattleTech DropShips plus a surprise. They are very well done, and I think done pretty much to scale, so will be ready to add to your favorite map. Like all add-on graphics, they can be scaled to other sizes, so you should have lots of uses for them. You can download all 21 graphics in a single zip file, as well as a separate zip of the WWII Yamato battleship, from the HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page.

HeavyMetal Pro, Vee, BA & Map Updates and German Documents

HeavyMetal Map now has a change that allows it to work with the new very high resolution monitors available, and minor changes were made two several other programs as well. And German users will be happy to see that both the Readme (Liesmich) and QuickRef (SchnellStart) documents are now available in German, compliments of Fabian Meierhans of Switzerland. To get the latest updates for all programs, go to the Program Updates Page.

January 7, 2009

HeavyMetal Pro and Vee Updates

Recent changes in how Battle Value is calculated for TSM, MASC and Superchargers has resulted in an update to the BV2 versions of these two programs. To get the latest updates for all programs, go to the Program Updates Page.

December 7, 2008

Custom Map Files and Stardate Magazine Files

Jason Weiser has provided these six very nice maps using the Advanced palette. You can download both zips on the HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page.

In addition, Johannes Heidler has sent 39 designs from Stardate Magazine, which you can view at the Data Files page.

December 4, 2008

MechCommander2 Graphics for HeavyMetal Map

Nolan "Discord" Wells is at it again, and has sent an additional 22 graphics from MechCommander2 Spaceport, which will work well as Add-On graphics. You can download both zips on the HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page.

December 3, 2008

MechCommander2 Graphics for HeavyMetal Map

Nolan "Discord" Wells sent these to me a long time ago, and I'm ashamed to say I'm just now getting them posted. Nevertheless, they make very nice hex Features and Details, and especially the HPG unit is a great Add-On graphic. You can download both zips of 22 graphics on the HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page.

December 2, 2008

HeavyMetal Pro and Vee Updates

As sometimes happens, a new release introduces some problems. In this case, a new weapons editor program I wrote to help enter the new BV2 weapon data, introduced some errors in weapon properties. In particular, if they can work with targeting computers, whether ammo explodes, that kind of thing. All of which affect the BV. I think I've got all the problems fixed, now, so here's another update, mostly with corrected weapons data. You'll definitely want to get these updates from the Program Updates Page.

December 1, 2008

Even More RUS Data Files

I guess Aaron Gregory just couldn't let yesterday's update be posted, without adding an addition 667 RUS files for Field Manual: Updates! Get them at the RUS Data Files page.

November 29, 2008

HeavyMetal Pro and Vee Updates & More RUS Data Files

With the introduction of Tactical Operations, there have also been changes to some component costs and BVs. So the BV2 versions of HMPro and HMVee have been updated accordingly. If you're using BV2, you'll want to get these updates from the Program Updates Page.

In addition, thanks to Aaron Gregory, you've got an extra 126 RUS data files to play with. Get them at the RUS Data Files page.

October 14, 2008

HeavyMetal Vee Update

A custom release for TPTB (The Powers That Be) got rolled into the last HMVee release, and as a result, BV, cost, etc. did not print on record sheets. Please note that this affected the BV1 version of HMVee only; the BV2 version does not have this problem. This has now been corrected, and you can download the latest version at the Program Updates Page.

September 22, 2008

HeavyMetal Program Updates

Several of the programs have been updated to work properly with the new, large (okay, huge) 30" monitors, with resolutions of 2500+ pixels in width. As usual, you can view all the changes, and get the latest updates for all programs, at the Program Updates Page.

August 14, 2008

Updated Dice Roller Page

Okay, well, "Corrected" might be a better description. Seems that for MRM rolls of 30 and 40, instead of doubling the number of hits from the 15 and 20 tables, the program actually rolled again, and added the two. On average, not so bad, but the displayed numbers sometimes didn't work out. Anyhow, the correct and new 30 and 40 tables from Total Warfare have now been incorporated into the code, so it should be giving only correct answers now (and I'm sure you'll let me know if that's not the case). The Dice Roller Page is a part of our Fun Stuff pages, and can be viewed here . In addition to using it when online, you can save the page and its code to your PC, by going on the IE menu File > Save As > Webpage complete.

Slovenia is our 54th Country!

HeavyMetal software is now in use in at least 54 countries around the world, from Japan to Sweden, Singapore to Finland, Thailand to Iceland, South Korea to South Africa, with the latest in the list being Slovenia. I've always had flags of all of the countries and U.S. States (50 of them, too, plus D.C.), and recently the U.S. Armed Forces, of our customers on my Our Customers Page. We very are pleased to add Slovenia to our listing.

July 1, 2008

U.S.A. Armed Forces Flags

I've always had flags of all of the countries (54 of them) and U.S. States (50 of them, too, plus D.C.) on my Our Customers Page. This serves the purpose of showing how widespread BattleTech (and HeavyMetal Software) is around the world, and the small but nice images are useful to HMP Forum posters, to help show where they're from. Well, I recently received an email from one of our servicemen overseas, who suggested having flags for our armed services as well. I've had customers from all of the U.S. armed forces purchase HeavyMetal products, so have included them all. And forum users may want to add them to their signatures as well.

June 22, 2008

HeavyMetal Program Updates

While there's nothing big, I've posted updates for HMPro, HMVee and HMAero. For the most part, they consist of BV2 changes for the Light ACs, revised crits for a couple Tactical Handbook weapons (based on an errata of which I was not aware), and a few other changes. As usual, you can view all the changes, and get the latest updates for all programs, at the Program Updates Page.

June 15, 2008

HeavyMetal Map Update

Not a bit one, but sometimes the Print screen didn't update properly, and when you entered Hex size in centimeters, it messed up the size. Those are fixed now, and you can download the latest update at the Program Updates Page.

May 16, 2008

Updated HeavyMetal Pro on Vista Page

As we all continue to learn, and sometimes work around, the quirks of Microsoft Vista, I continue to update my web page concerning it. Today I've added another location to specify to run the programs as an Administrator. Read all about it, and other good information concerning Microsoft's newest operating system at my Running HeavyMetal on Windows Vista/7/8/10 and page.

May 12, 2008

Updated Weapon Battle Value Calculator

The Weapon BV Calculator has always been very useful, but now it's been updated to cover even more. All of the possible missile/cluster hits from Total Warfare have been included (like17 and 29), maximum range has been increased to 40, and most important, you can enter separate damage values for Short, Medium and Long Range (for those Heavy Gauss Rifle lookalikes)! The expanded range table shows all the values as before, and you can check calculations the whole way through. Best of all, you can simply save this page to your computer's hard drive, and calculate weapon BV even when you're not connected to the Internet. Be sure to check it out here!

March 13, 2008

HeavyMetal Vee BV2 Change

Seems like BV rules changes are happening faster than I can make them. It has been recently ruled that the BV of Defensive equipment (such as the Anti-Missile Systems) does not get halved if mounted in the rear, like Offensive weapons do. Therefore, I've updated HMVee to accommodate this change. You can view all the changes, and update, at the Program Updates Page.

March 6, 2008

HeavyMetal Program Releases

Various small, but significant, changes were made during additional BV2 playtesting, and the compiling of BV2 values for publication, and these have all been rolled into this release of HMPro and HMVee. You can view all the changes, and update to one or both programs, at the Program Updates Page.

March 2, 2008

HeavyMetal Vee BV2 Correction

Another small BV2 correction, where the Clan Active Probes were changed to Defensive equipment. You can view all the changes, and update, at the Program Updates Page.

February 27, 2008

HeavyMetal Vee BV2 Correction

I've made a correction in the calculation of Battle Value 2 by HMVee. Previously, the BV of LB 20-X AC ammo was incorrect, and Beagle Active Probes were considered as Offensive, rather than Defensive, equipment. Although only the weapon data files changed, I also up-revved the program file, to keep track of things easier. You can view all the changes and update at the Program Updates Page.

February 18, 2008

HeavyMetal Pro on Vista

While HeavyMetal Pro has always been able to run on Windows Vista (I use it to run and develop the programs), there are a few hoops Mr. Gates wants you to jump through first. I've just updated my Running HeavyMetal on Windows Vista/7/8/10 page to include information on eliminating the annoying flickering equipment boxes while dragging and dropping equipment on the HMPro Distribution screen. Please check out this page for instructions on how to set this, and other information about the HeavyMetal programs and Vista.

February 4, 2008

New HeavyMetal Vee Release with BV2

In an effort to keep up with the never ending changes of the BattleTech Universe, a separate release of HMVee has been made available which incorporates all of the new Battle Value 2 calculations, weapon BVs and tables from the new Classic BattleTech TechManual, even including changes that have not yet made public. To help the player, two versions of HMVee are being made available: V2.07 R5, with the original BV, and V2.20, with BV2. You can keep BV, update to BV2, or even run both. For more information on the differences and how to work with them, look at the Battle Value versus BV2 page. You can view all the changes, and update to one or both programs, at the Program Updates Page.

November 9, 2007

Some Programs Updates

Updates for HeavyMetal Map, Aero and Lite have been posted. Most of the changes are not major, but you'll still want to update to download the latest releases at the Program Updates Page.

July 28, 2007

HeavyMetal Pro BV2 Update

A couple little problems snuck into the BV2 calculations, and they've now been fixed. Please download and install the update to be sure your new Battle Value is correct. You can view all the changes, and update your program, at the Program Updates Page.

July 28, 2007

New HeavyMetal Pro BV2 Release

The new Battle Value system (BV2) changes the way Active Probes are used in Battle Value calculations, as they are now considered Offensive equipment. A new update of the BV2 version of HMPro now includes this change. You can view all the changes, and update your program, at the Program Updates Page.

July 21, 2007

New HeavyMetal Pro Release

By accident, some code put in for TPTB that left off Battle Value and cost figures on the record sheets was left in, so this fix simply removes that, so it works as it's supposed to. You can view all the changes, and update to one or both programs, at the Program Updates Page.

July 17, 2007

New HeavyMetal Pro Release with BV2

In an effort to keep up with the never ending changes of the BattleTech Universe, a separate release of HMPro has been made available which incorporates all of the new Battle Value 2 calculations, weapon BVs and tables from the new Classic BattleTech TechManual, even including changes that have not yet made public. To help the player, two versions of HMPro are being made available: V5.10, with the original BV, and V5.20, with BV2. You can keep BV, update to BV2, or even run both. For more information on the differences and how to work with them, look at the Battle Value versus BV2 page. You can view all the changes, and update to one or both programs, at the Program Updates Page.

New Postal Rates & Methods

The USPS postal rate increases and rate restructuring have forced us to increase our shipping costs for the first time. Previously, we absorbed these increases, but they're just too different, and in some cases, too high, for us to do so. You can read more about the new rates at the Shipping Costs & Methods page and our rationale for the changes, as well as changes we are making in our packing and shipping methods, on the Postal Changes page.

March 27, 2007

HeavyMetal and Vista

While we're all in a learning process with Vista, please visit the Running HeavyMetal on Windows Vista/7/8/10 page for the latest in instructions and information on running the HeavyMetal program on Microsoft's latest operating system. The bottom line is: YES! You can run your HeavyMetal programs on Vista. Bill just has some hoops he'd like you to jump through first!

March 12, 2007

Updated BV Balance Spreadsheet

Since the latest CBT publication, the Classic BattleTech TechManual, has now been released, and since the Battle Value modifications for both skills (piloting and gunnery) and force numbers have changed, the BV Balancer Spreadsheet has been updated as well, with the with the help of Chris "Goose" Searls. To download the Version 2.4 of the spreadsheet, just go to the Battle Value Balancer page.

February 18, 2007

New Map Files for ARTy

Lee "T-Bolt" Smith has been kind enough to take the time to make GIF images of all maps from six map sheet sets, in a format that can be used with ARTy. It's a 30 MB download, but if you're into using artillery on standard, published map sheets, you'll want to go to the ART (Artillery Resolution Tracker) web page, at the bottom, and download them. Thanks again to Lee for all his time and effort!

All Programs Updated - Again

While the previous updates increased the maximum number of custom weapons allowed in the programs, the code to Absorb a weapon from an existing design was not changed, and still had the limitation. That limitation has now been removed in all of the programs. You can download the updates at the Program Updates Page.

December 3, 2005

HeavyMetal Vee Update

Today's earlier update of HMVee included some testing code that should have been removed. It can cause the program to not start properly, depending on the installed location of the program. It is fixed now, so if you were among the first to download your HMVee update, you get to do it again. Sorry. You can download the updates at the Program Updates Page.

December 3, 2005

Mostly, the files were updated to make sure Quad costs were correct. You can do that more quickly yourself by using the HMPro menu Options > Utilities > Update All Data Files; do this for all of your HMPro folders. The new zip files are all located at the Data Files Page. You can also see what other changes are made in the data files at the Data File Change Log page.

September 7, 2005

Updated ProtoMech Files. Again

Okay, while I did correct some Usage information, it was not updated in accordance with Field Manual: Updates. So, I've gone back through and made sure that the usage now includes the usage described on page 218 in the Random ProtoMech Assignment Table. A new zip file of all ProtoMech designs with the latest usage and other information is now available at the Data Files Page.

The Revised edition of Technical Readout 3026 added a new section of Lost Designs, early designs, some of which pre-date the Star League era, which can still occasionally be found. The files include 24 data files (18 HMAero files and 6 HMVee files) and 19 high-quality pictures (15 aero designs, and 4 vehicles or VTOLs). They are organized in four separate zip files. Please see the Data Files Page for the files.

March 3, 2005

All Programs Updated - Again

Due to a technical difficulty, the updates made available on March 1 did not actually include the changes stated. So I've uploaded all new setups, along with a revision of HMAero and HMVee above what was supposed to be uploaded previously. Sorry 'bout that. :-( You can check out the changes, and update the files, at the Program Updates Page. New WizKids, Inc. License Agreement

With all the changes in the gaming industry in general, and Classic BattleTech in particular, changes were required in the license agreement for HeavyMetal products. This has now been completed, and again, the future looks bright for HeavyMetal software. This agreement insures the future of HeavyMetal software, continued availability and updating of previous products, and development of new products as well.

April, 2004

Microsoft Approval

Since Microsoft controls all rights to all software and electronic forms of the BattleTech universe, it was necessary to obtain written permission from them to continue to produce HeavyMetal software. This was done, and we will be continuing to produce our software for the Classic BattleTech community.

ART (Artillery Resolution Tracker)

ART (or ARTy to his friends) is a much-improved, but still FREE, artillery planning and resolution program, allowing you to specify the weapon and ammo type for your artillery, select your targets and gunnery skill, and randomly calculate and display damage based on the standard scatter rules from Classic BattleTech. You can even display the damage on standard map sheet graphics, and print out the damage grid, with or without the map sheets. Good for planning artillery barrages for that next game, and give your enemy a real surprise! A free program for our customers, you can see more about ART and download it here.

Artillery Simulator

Good for planning artillery barrages for that next game, and give your enemy a real surprise! (Please note that the original artillery program has been replaced with a far more advanced version referred to above.)
